Last week we looked at the first of three next steps for kids after baptism. Next Step #1 - Start a Daily Time to Hang Out with God. There’s nothing more important than our friendship with God, but Jesus never meant us to follow Him alone. That brings us to today’s step.
Next Step #2 – Find other believers and do life together.
Jesus gave us the church as the physical manifestation of His life on earth. Through other believers we are encouraged and challenged in our walk with God. Whatever your age, we all need other Jesus followers to help us become more like Him.
In Children’s Ministry at Southland we have an easy way for kids to experience their first taste of being a part of biblical community and forming spiritual friendships. We call them Life Groups. Life Groups meet as a part of our weekend services in Children’s Ministry and give kids the opportunity to plug in and build relationships with other kids and their leader.
We hope that kids will become a part of a Life Group when they first enter our preschool ministry as a three year old so that they can continue in a group on through elementary, middle school and even high school. Can you imagine the depth of relationship a group of high school seniors would have if they’ve been together for fourteen years?
Our prayer is that when they graduate and go off to college, the first question these students will ask is, “Where’s my life group? I have to plug in with the church. I’ve had a group since I was three!”
Parents who would like their children to experience a Life Group must register by filling out a Life Group registration card which is available in all three Children’s Ministry environments.
So far we’ve seen that God wants to us to do life with Jesus in community with other believers. Later this week we’ll look at the third and final next step to help new Christ-followers as they begin their walk with God.
